About Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen

At Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen, every dish begins with my mom. She spent her life cooking for our family, filling our home with the comforting aromas and flavors of Rangoon. Her recipes weren’t written in books—they were created in our kitchen, made with patience, care, and love, and shared around the table with the people she loved most.

The food we serve today is the same food we grew up eating at home. Every sauce, broth, salad, and curry is made homemade from scratch, just as it always has been in our family kitchen.

Opening Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen is our way of sharing a piece of our home with you. We hope that when you eat here, you feel the warmth, comfort, and love that has always been at the heart of these meals.

Ever since they've opened up shop, I've been so keen to dine at Sophie's, so when I finally made my way to Queens, NY, I made it my mission to eat there. This is the kind of place where, the beautiful pictures of the food on the menu also match well with what you are eating. Im the type of person who enjoys beautiful presentation in addition to the actual flavor of the food. And Sophie's did just that for me. I had the Kyay-Oh soup version, "nan pyar thote" with chicken, shrimp and vegetables fritters and the flavors are just amazing and full. Its so authentic in taste and their food portions are so generous. I especially enjoy the friendly culture vibe of the place and it's very welcoming and accommodating. And if you like Burmese desserts, you've got to try them there. I especially love the "Fallooda". I will definitely be coming back to Sophie's on my next trip to NYC to enjoy the other dishes I didn't get to try this time. So if you are in NY and want an authentic Burmese food experience, come on out to Queens and try a few dishes at Sophie's.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve had Burmese food before, and Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen is one of the best places I’ve found in New York. This time I ordered the Mohinga, and it was excellent. The broth was deeply flavorful, rich without being heavy, and tasted like it had been prepared with a lot of care. The noodles had a great texture, and the fresh herbs and crispy toppings added the perfect balance of flavor and crunch. What I really appreciate is that the food feels authentic rather than adapted. Every ingredient seemed fresh, and the portions were generous. The restaurant itself is clean, welcoming, and the staff were friendly throughout the meal. Queens is already known for its incredible food scene, and Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen is a standout if you’re looking for authentic Burmese cuisine. I’m already looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu, especially the tea leaf salad and Kyay Oh. Highly recommended whether you’re new to Burmese food or already a fan.

I’ve visited this restaurant more than three times, and each time I’ve tried different dishes from the menu. Every single dish has been delicious and full of authentic Burmese flavors that remind me of home. The service has also been consistently excellent. I highly recommend Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen to anyone who wants to experience authentic Burmese cuisine or simply misses the taste of home. I will definitely continue coming back!

This is my second taste of Burmese food and it was such a treat to have it at Sophie’s. The family is so welcoming and it was a perfect mix of sit down casual and home cooking. We order four soup noodles, the tea leaf salad and two desserts and my youngest daughter said it was the best meal she’s ever had. The noodle soups ranged from a very clean clear broth, a thick soup and a creamy thick soup. They all feature subtle flavors which seemed to counter the thickness. All were unique flavors for our family and all delicious. There really is a soup for anything you are feeling. The noodles weee cooked perfectly and the proteins were well seasoned and tasted great. Definitely grab a dessert when visiting as it’s a great way to end a tremendous meal. Service was so friendly and relaxed. It’s a cafeteria style service but food came out quick and smiles all around. We’ll definitely be visiting again soon.

Note- Uploaded photos of the menu. On a side note, some dishes such as the ohn no khao swè/curry chicken noodle soup are only available on the weekend. No reservations. Best dishes were the Mohinga and Dan Bout, but all were tasty. Anyway, I was here a few days ago with a group of 6, and this new casual Burmese place joins a list of many excellent restaurants on this block in Elmhurst. Even compared to those, this place is tiny with no reservations. While tiny, the food here packs in flavor. The staff was friendly and did what they could to assist with our larger group. As we were unaware that some options are only available on weekends, our host changed up some things. Our only smaller plate was the $15.99 Wat Thar Dote Hote/Assorted Pork Intestines, or really offal, with braised pork meat, tongue, ear, heart, liver, stomach, and egg served with tangy dipping sauce. This dish, normally served on skewers, was originally created by the Burmese-Chinese, and that makes sense in terms of flavor, as the various pork products had a mild five-spice powder and soy flavor with a bit of sweetness. Otherwise, the pork products were tender and had a nice mix of textures, with the only one ha
